The third generation of Rega's Brio integrated amplifier now boasts a modified power supply and up-rated power transformer for a big step up in performance. The power supply uses the new generously rated toroidal transformer and 10,000µF smoothing capacitors that provide enough current to drive the hardest of loads. "The Rega Brio 3 offers excellent build quality and exceptional value for the money. I know of nothing better at anywhere near the price," marvels Sam Tellig in the March 2007 issue of Stereophile magazine. The Brio 3 is all about the musical performance. An amplifier's function is to boost the tiny signal generated by a phono cartridge or other source so that it can drive loudspeakers. It is vital that the amplifier achieves this without changing the signal and consequently distorting the music. Rather than having the unnecessary gadgets and frills usually found on products in this price range, the Brio 3 utilizes the highest quality components to achieve the best sonic performance. Rega avoids superfluous gadgets such as tone controls or a headphone output which might obstruct the signal path and degrade the produced sound quality. The increased power output of 49 watts-per-channel RMS into 8 ohms of the Brio 3 greatly improves control and musical performance over its predecessor.' The output amplifier is built around a pair of Sanken 150-watt Darlington output transistor. An electronic protection circuit safeguards you against shorted speakers and reactive loads of 1.7W or less. The Brio three includes five inputs for CD player, tuner, another line level component, tape, and phono. The built-in high quality phono stage can be used with moving magnet (MM) or high output moving coil (MC) cartridges. If excellent sound quality and affordable price is your priority, the Brio 3 is the ideal amplifier for you. Simply switch it on, sit back, and let your amplifier speak for itself.
